Humpnose Bigeye Bream

Monotaxis grandoculis

Silvery light-grey. Often with metallic yellowish spots on the head.
Juvenile with three blackish saddle spots and bright lower body half.

Size : 60 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and out reefs, 1-100 m. Often rests during the day alone or in loose groups along the reef edge. Goes alone in search of food at night, feeds on hard-shelled invertebrates.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia, Hawaii and French Polynesia.
