Spot-tail Butterflyfish

Chaetodon ocellicaudus

Distinct singular black spot on the tail stalk. Similar: C. melannotus, black spot however merges with black back area.

Size : 14 cm

Habitat : In coral-rich lagoons, more frequently, however, at outer reef slopes and in channels, 3-50 m. Usually ranges in pairs, feeds on stony and soft coral polyps.

Distribution : Malaysia to the Philippines, Palau, New Guinea and GBR.
