Schooling Bannerfish

Heniochus diphreutes

Forward-ached Brest. Similar: H. acuminatus, breast not forward-arched, snout somewhat longer.
This species usually forms large schools which sometimes comprise thousands of fish and in open water move along the reef.

Size : 20 cm

Habitat : In open water at outer feef slopes, 5-200 m. Prefers areas with rising deep water currents and current canals. Often clearly visible above or in front of the reef in open water where it feeds on zooplankton. Juveniles live in reef vicinity and can also work as cleanerfish.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to S Japan, Hawaii, Australia and Vanuatu.
