Eightband Butterflyfish

Chaetodon octofasciatus

Black vertical stripes. Variant with a whitish basic colouration.

Size : 12 cm

Habitat : In coral-rich lagoons and protected coastal reefs, also in murky water, 3-20 m. Juveniles in groups between branched acropora coral, adults usually in pairs. Feeds exclusively on coral polyps.

Distribution : The Maldives, Andaman Sea to SW Japan, Palau and the Solomons.
