Humpback Turretfish

Tetrosomus gibbosus

Back not flattened, but rather roof-shaped and with large spike in the middle.

Size : 30 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and coastal reefs above shallow sand and seagrass grounds, 1-20 m, also on muddy offshore grounds in depths to 110 m. Feeds on bottom-dwelling invertebrates which it uncovers with a water jet.

Distribution : Red Sea, Arabian Gulf and East Africa to the Philippines, PNG and New Caledonia.
