Great Barracuda

Sphyraena barracuda

Caudal fin with white tips and frequently with two large dark patches. Often some dark speckles on the body.

Size : 180 cm

Habitat : In lagoons, bays, outreefs and river deltas, one to more than 100 metres, usually in the upper 20 metres. Often stands motionless in open water near the reef. Juveniles frequently in groups, adults are usually loners. Curious, can approach divers.

Distribution : All tropical seas.
