Red Sea Anthias

Pseudanthias taeniatus

Male: whitish with two broad dark red horizontal stripes. Female: orange with light abdomen

Size : 13 cm

Habitat : In coral-rich, clear lagoons and outreefs, 12-50 m. Harem groups with up to 15 females. Frequently at deep patch reefs and prominent coral formations. Female family near seabed, male often meters above.

Distribution : Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden to Arabian Gulf replaced by the very similar Townsend anthias (P. Townsendi).
