Emperor Angelfish

Pomacanthus imperator

Alternate yellow and blue horizontal stripe.
As with all Indo-Pacific Pomacanthus species, the Emperor Angelfish juveniles also show a completely different colouration from the adults with a characteristic blue white pattern.

Size : 40 cm

Habitat : In coral-rich lagoons and outreefs, 3-70 m. Occupies large home territories and forms harems, but usually swims alone or in pairs. Feeds on sponges, sea squirts and cnidarians.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia, Hawaii and French Polynesia.
