Description

The Orange-bellied Snake (Gongylosoma baliodeira) is a small and slender terrestrial snake belonging to the family Colubridae. It typically displays a dark brown or blackish upper body with a striking bright orange to reddish belly, which gives the species its common name. A thin light line may run along its spine, and the head is slightly distinct from the neck. This species is mostly nocturnal and can often be found under leaf litter or debris in lowland forests, gardens, and plantations.

Distribution

In Bali it is recorded that it is found only in the lowest area on the edge of montana forest in the Batukaru Protection forest, at an altitude of about 1400 m asl, while in other places it is known to be in rainforest and montane forest up to an altitude of 1500 m asl.
