Description

Hypolimnas anomala has brown wings with a purple luster and white spots on the edges. There are usually two rows of white spots and three pale streaks on each forewing, the hindwings are paler with a dark brown stripe. The underside of the wings is similar to the upperside. Butterflies imitate or mimic the appearance of the Euploea species.

Larva: Hypolimnas anomala larvae are cylindrical in shape with a length of 1.9 mm, golden yellow in color covered with many small, dark turbecles. Setae long, smooth and dark colored arising from the turbecles, the capsule of the head round and black. At the final stage of the instar, the caterpillar is black with a bright red head and has a pair of long black spines.

Pupa : Hypolimnas anomala pupae are pale brown to golden brown, pupae length 19-21 mm.
