Papillio demoleus has black wings with pale yellow stripes on the upper side, forming a band from the forewing to the hindwing. There is a series of yellow submarginal spots on both wings. The underside of the wings is predominantly yellow with black stripes.
Larva: Papilio demoleus larvae are black, the head is black and there are two rows of setae covering the body at the first instar. At the 5th instar, the caterpillar is cylindrical and pale green in color with a white subspiracular band.
Pupa: Papilio demoleus pupae are light green with yellow markings on the dorsal found in green vegetation areas, while pupae are found in dry areas are light grayish brown.
