Junonia atlites

Description

Junonia atlites has pale grayish upperwings and dark brown stripes on the discal and submarginal. On the post-discal front and rear wings there is a series of orange eye spots surrounded by black. The underside of the wings are the same as the upper side, but the color is paler.

Larva: larvae of Junonia atlites are yellowish orange, cylindrical in shape, black head capsule and body surface covered with small tubecles and long dark setae. In the next stage, the body color becomes blackish with smooth setae which is quite long. The head capsule is black with small orange patches.

Pupa: Junonia atlites pupae are grayish brown in color, about 17-19 mm long.

Mating Habits

Junonia atlites reproduce by laying eggs (oviparous), the eggs are laid one by one on the surface of the leaves or shoots of the host plant. Eggs are greenish, round in shape with a flat top, about 0.6 – 0.7 mm in diameter.
