Hidari irava has dark brown upperwings with pale yellow spots on the forewings. The undersides of the wings are predominantly pale brown in color with faint purple strokes on the sides. The hind wings have several post-discal spots and white spots over the cells. The forewings have a series of dark sub-apical spots. This species has dark red eyes, yellow apiculus and club antennae, its six legs are well developed but when perched it often looks like it is standing on all fours because its forelegs are held tightly against the chest. Juveniles have pale yellow cilia on both wings.
Larva: Hidari irava larvae are pale green with blackish brown stripes on both sides of the body, the head capsule is brown.
Pupa: Hidari irava pupae are brown in color with black stripes on both sides of the body.
