Diet and Nutrition

Euploea midamus larvae feed on leaves from the Apocynaceae (Roupellia, Strophanthus, Nerium) and Moraceae (Ficus) families.

Diet : Herbivore (larva), Nectarivore

Mating Habits

Euploea midamus reproduces by laying eggs (oviparous), the eggs are laid separately at the shoots of the host plant. The eggs are dome shaped cream white.

Life cycle (Metamorfosis) : Euploea midamus eggs take about 3 days to hatch into a greenish yellow caterpillar. The caterpillar undergoes 5 instars before pupating, in the first instar there is a yellowish prosternal gland on its back. In the second instar a pair of black fleshy dorso-lateral processes are formed in the 2 and 3 thorax segments and the 2 and 8 abdominal segments. During development these processes grow elongated and curved. The pupa process occurs under the leaves or stems, the pupa is attached vertically with cremaster silk pads, this process lasts for 7 days before becoming a butterfly.
