Cupha erymanthis

Description

Cupha erymanthis has orange brown forewings in the basal area and black in the apical area with several subapical spots. Among them there are yellowish disc spots with three or four dark brown spots in spaces 2, 3 and 4. The hindwings are orange brown, there are lines on the marginal, submarginal and postdiscal with black spots in spaces 2 and 6. Underwings color are paler.

Larva: Cupha erymanthis larvae are cylindrical, cream-white, surface covered with small turbecles and short setae. The capsule of the head is yellowish brown with a black front. At the 5th instar stage, the caterpillar is dark red with a green tinge.

Pupa: Cupha erymanthis pupa is green, 18-19 mm long, in the dorso-lateral part there are 5 pairs of red processes with a black tip.

Mating Habits

Cupha erymanthis reproduce by laying eggs (ovipar), female butterflies lay their eggs one by one under the young leaves or saplings of the host plant. The eggs are slightly round, white or pale yellow in color, with small holes on the surface. The diameter of the eggs is 0.9 mm, the height is about 1 mm.
