Population threats

Pycnonotus goiavier is a type of bird that is widely caught as pets because it is a tame species. In addition, this bird is easy to find around the countryside and easily recognizable nesting sites. However, because of this, merbah cerucuk is increasingly difficult to find in nature around Java.

Population number

Pycnonotus goiavier has been rated as Least Concern/low risk of extinction. The exact number of merbah cerucuk has not been calculated, but the population trend is known to be increasing. This species is abundant in the lowlands and highlands of the Kalimantan region.
