Population threats

Amaurornis phoenicurus is a type of bird that was easy to find several years ago, but now its numbers have decreased considerably due to being hunted and captured. In addition, the use of chemical pesticides in rice fields also contaminates food sources and the habitat of these birds.

Population number

Amaurornis phoenicurus has been rated as Least Concern / Low Risk of Extinction. Population trends are unknown, but the population is not believed to be declining fast enough to approach the threshold below the population trend criteria.
