Description

Dicaeum agile is a small bird, has a strong dark beak and short tail. It is dark gray brown on top and a dull grayish with spreading strokes on the light underside. The iris is reddish. Gender is indistinguishable. the juvenile has a paler base of the lower jaw and less scratches on the underside and there is a whitish patch at the end of the tail feathers.

Mating Habits

The breeding season in southern India is December to March. The nests appear to be camouflaged as dry leaves, are pendant purse-like structures made of spider web or fine plant fibers and are located 3 to 15 meters high suspended from thin horizontal branches, and often nest among the nests of Oecophylla smaragdina ants. Both males and females participate in nest building. The female lays 2-4 eggs. The incubation period is around 13 days and chicks take about 18 days to mature.
