Description

Zoothera andromedae is a medium-sized chirping bird from the Turdidae family. The characteristics of this bird have a body length of about 23 to 25 cm with a body weight of about 81-108 grams. Has a short tail and dark. The upper body is dark gray with black scales, the face and throat have black spots, the chest is light bluish gray, the abdomen is white with lacy black scales on the sides. The iris is brown, with a gray beak, and blackish brown feet.

Zoothera andromedae can be found in subtropical or tropical humid lowland forests and also in subtropical or tropical humid mountain forests.

Geography

Continent : Asia

Country : Can be found in the Philippines, Timor Leste and Indonesia. In Indonesia, it can be found in Sumatra, Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara. Sumatra (including P.enggano), Java (limited to Gede-Pangrango, Halimun), appear to be more evenly distributed in the mountainous areas of Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores, Timor, Wetar, Moa, and Romang.

These birds like to forage above the soil surface, looking for worms and small insects under the topsoil. Sometimes also eat forest fruit, when worms and insects are not found.

The breeding season for this species is from October to February. The female lays 2 or 3 eggs which are brownish in color. Nests are made in or near primary forest and not far from the soil surface, made of a bunch of dense moss, fine roots, leaf stems, mixed with clay and covered with palm fiber.
