Description

Pycnonotus squamatus is a bird measuring 15 cm and is a member of the Pycnonotidae family. The head is black, the chin to the throat is white. The back is olive colored, the rump is bright yellow. wing tips black, tail black with white tips on outer feathers, chest and pelvis black and white, edge of scaly feathers. The legs and beak are black, while the iris of the eye is red

Population threats​

The threat to this species is the loss of forest habitat in the lowlands, but this threat can be mitigated by the tolerance of this species to montane forests

Population number​

Despite having a large range and population, this species is largely dependent on forests, and occurs in areas where massive deforestation has occurred. As such, it is likely to decline fairly rapidly over most of its range, and is therefore considered Near Threatened.
