Description

Halcyon cyanoventric is medium size bird (25 cm) with a very dark body color. Adult bird with dark brown head. Brown throat and collar. The stomach and back are purplish blue. Black wing covers and bright blue flying feathers. The large white patches on the wings were clearly visible when flying. The iris is brown, with a red beak and legs. In juvenile birds the color of the throat is whitish.

Mating Habits

Halcyon cyanoventris nest between March and September, this breeding month is roughly the dry season in Indonesia. Tunnel holes are usually 1.5–3 meters above ground, which may help defend against predators, and are 40 cm to 1 meter long.
