Bubo sumatranus is one type of owl that is quite large in size, with a body length range of 40-46 cm and a body weight of 620 grams. Has dark gray fur. The upper body is blackish brown, entirely striped of fine dark yellow, and the eyebrows are white. The lower body is whitish gray with thick black stripes

This species inhabits tropical and subtropical areas, in lowland forests from an altitude of 1000 – 1600 mdpl.

Geography

Continent : Asia

Country : Keeling Island, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand. In Indonesia, it can be found in Kalimantan, Sumatra, Bangka, Java and Bali.

Habits and Lifestyle

Owls are a very nocturnal species, and usually during the day, roost alone or in pairs and hide in tall trees with dense cover, and are very fond of bathing in ponds or rivers.

Mating Habits

This species is a group of monogamous birds that only have 1 partner during their life. When the breeding season they will return to the same nest from year to year. The nest is a hole in a large tree. In one breeding season, produce 1-2 eggs. In Java, the eggs of this bird can be found around February and April, and there are already chicks around May and June. In Sumatra, chicks are found in their nests around March and May. In Kalimantan, seen around February and March
