Description

Duttaphrynus melanostictus is a medium to large toad with a medium-sized head and short limbs. They have thick dry skin with prominent cranial protrusions and prominent parotid glands, tympana is oval or circular in shape. They vary in color and can range from plain brick red to almost completely black. The most common color pattern is pale yellow-brown which is marked by dark brown or reddish stripes and spots. The back is covered with a series of warts of various sizes which are surrounded by black or dark pigment and have prominent spines.
