Pelagic Thresher Shark

Alopias pelagicus

Typical of the family, extremely long upper tail lobes. Very similar to A. vulpinus with white on the upper pectoral fin base.

Size : 350 cm

Habitat : Denizens of the high seas, 1-150 m. Occasionally in the vicinity of the coast, especially at offshore reefs and underwater mounds. Eats bony fish and squid.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to Galapagos and Tahiti.
