Yellowtail Coris

TP: Yellow tail, luminous blue dots at rear on tail base and body.
IP: with a ruddy head. This specimen is already beginning the color change to adult male, discernible form the vertical greenish strip starting to form at the front of its body.
JP is red-orange with white black-edged patches.

Size : 38 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and outreefs, 2-50 m. Prefers to swim near coral above sand and rubble. Feeds predominantly on hard-shelled invertebrates such as snails, mussels, sea urchins, crustaceans.

Distribution : Christmas Islands and Bali to S Japan, Micronesia, Hawaii and French Polynesia.
