Malacanthus brevirostris

Neck yellowish green. Two black stripes on the caudal fin.

Size : 30 cm

Habitat : On sand and rubble of outerfeefs, 5-61 m. Alone or, especially for juveniles, in loosely formed groups. Frequently territorial, but shy. Flees on disturbance into holes in the seabed which are often underneath larger stones. Feed on invertebrate bottom-dwellers.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Hawaii, Panama and SE Australia.
