Longfin Batfish

Platax teira

Broad dorsal and anal fins. Black spot diagonally beneath the pectoral fin.

Size : 60 cm

Habitat : In deep lagoons, bays and at outer reef slopes, 2-30 m. Often in schools, sometimes also alone or in small groups. Juveniles of this species prefer to keep to low depth in protected reef areas and can more often be observed than juveniles of other Platax species.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Kosrae in Micronesia, GBR and Fiji.
