Black-and-white Snapper

Macolor niger

Adults are grey with dark fin.
Juvenile solid white and very high-contrast with black fin and black eye spot. Sub-adult with characteristic grey-white patter.

Size : 65 cm

Habitat : Prefers deep lagoons and steep outer reef slopes, 3-90 m. Juveniles alone, adults often in large inactive groups in front of steep drops. At night they feed alone on zooplankton.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia, Samoa and New Caledonia.
