Spotbase Burrfish

Cyclichthys spilostylus

Fixed, thorn-like barbs bordered in yellow or dark (usually in the lower half of the body).

Size : 34 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and protected coastal and outreefs, 3-90 m. Often above seagrass and sand surfaces with isolated coral heads. Not shy. Feeds on hardshell invertebrates.

Distribution : Red Sea, Gulf of Oman and East Africa to S Japan, Australia and Galapagos.
