Black spot above on the gill lid. White tips on back side and anal fin.

Size : 90 cm

Habitat : At clear out reefs, 2-90 m. Often swimming in spirals in large, semi-stationary schools during the day. Hunts fish at night alone. During the mating ritual, it swims in pairs close together in open water, when the male becomes almost black.

Distribution : Red Sea, East Africa to SW Japan and Central America.
