Mandarinfish

Synchiropus splendidus

Unmistakable colour pattern of orange, green and blue.

Size : 6 cm

Habitat : Sometimes common, though hidden is small groups on soft ground with dense coarse rubble or between coral branches, 2-20 m. While mating in the twilight, they swim a short distance in pairs into the open with body contact. Very shy, immediately flee into their shelters from the light of diving lamps.

Distribution : Indonesia to the Philippines, SW Japan, Caroline Islands, PNG and New Caledonia.
