Larva: larvae of Idea leuconoe are white with black transverse bands, each with a red spot near the head and anus. The body is cylindrical and has long black setae.

Idea leuconoe is common in coastal mangrove and rainforest areas at an altitude of up to 400 m above sea level.

Idea leuconoe flies very slow, graceful and hovering. This is done to show off their wing patterns to warn predators that they are poisonous. These butterflies usually rest with their wings upright or half open when the weather is sunny, when it is cloudy they tend to feed on the flowers. When eating they slowly flap their wings, but when perched on a leaf while basking their wings are fully stretched.
Idea leuconoe larvae feed on the leaves of Parsonsia helicandra, Parsonsia laevigata, Parsonsia spiralis, Tylophora hispida, and Cynanchum formosanum, so these larvae and butterflies are poisonous.
